Working with farmers to make a sustainable difference

As more eyes turn to agriculture’s role in both contributing to and measuring farm emissions, the industry has a clear window of opportunity to shape the future for everyone that relies on agriculture for food security.

Nutrien Ag Solutions Managing Director Kelly Freeman says Australian farmers should be the ones that see commercial outcomes for being leaders in sustainability.

Mr Freeman says these benefits will be unlocked when farmers can confidently measure, improve and communicate their on-farm environmental performance.

“You can’t improve what you don’t measure, so our key focus is assisting farmers to measure their emissions on farm. Today we have several pilot projects to demonstrate how growers can practically reduce their impact on the environment without coming at the expense of productivity,” Mr Freeman says.

“Nutrien takes a holistic approach to the sustainability of our farming systems. If we only focus on one area we lose sight of the bigger picture, Nutrien has the privilege of working with customers right across the country on challenges from biodiversity to soil health, water conservation, workforce diversity and more.”

Nutrien Ag Solutions currently has a range of pilot programs in progress across the country which are focused on demonstrating that we can assist growers to maintain and improve productivity whilst reducing their environmental impact.  Some of this work includes low carbon canola, sustainable use of nitrogen pilots, and a low environmental impact program in potatoes.
