Nutrien Ag Solutions backs shearing world record attempts in WA

Excitement is echoing through the shearing industry in Western Australia with one world record broken last week, and two more attempts will be underway in the next two weeks.

Shearer Koen Black broke the eight-hour Merino lamb record at Boyup Brook on October 26. The previous record holder was his brother Dwayne, which was set 20 years ago.

The next attempt will be by Lou Brown, along with his brother Jim and cousin Imran Sullivan, making a three-stand attempt on the eight-hour Merino lamb record at Cranbrook on November 5.

Lou Brown already holds the solo world record for Merino ewes, which he achieved in 2019. This will be his first attempt at a lamb world record.

At the same time the trio will be attempting to break, Koen Black’s solo record that he set, just last week.

Following the attempt this weekend, on November 12, Floyde Neil will attempt the eight-hour crossbred lamb record in Kojonup.

Nutrien Ag Solutions will be getting behind the three-stand event as a sponsor.

Sam Hunt, Nutrien Ag Solutions Head of Operations said, “Supporting these industry events is incredibly important to Nutrien.”

“There’s brilliant talent in the region and everyone that comes along will get to see the highest calibre of shearing. Farmers value having them around, and that matters to us.”

“The industry will be eagerly following the results of the attempts, and so will our Nutrien team.”

The record attempt had been on the back burner, with plans to attempt it being put on hold in 2020 when COVID hit. There have now been years of planning, training, and excitement leading to these events.
