Scott Paton’s research leads to win at Wine Industry Supplier Association Awards
Based in Western Australia for Nutrien Ag Solutions, Scott was recently honoured with the Impact Award at the Wine Industry Supplier Association Awards.
The award recognises individuals that have made a significant impact on the industry within the past year.
Scott’s role at Nutrien Ag Solutions requires a unique skillset and adds value to the entire horticultural and viticultural industry.
“A day in my role could mean investigating control strategies or providing independent evaluations of new candidate products before their release into commercial vineyards,” Scott said.
“I work as a liaison between research bodies, solution supply companies, and horticulture and viticulture practitioners across various regions nationwide,” Scott noted
Scott wants to ensure that all levels of research consider the practical needs of the industry.
“It's important to me to deliver highly technical research findings in a digestible format, enabling rapid consumption and adoption by growers. I believe this approach is crucial in an ever-changing viticultural landscape, where staying informed is essential for growers' success,” Scott said.
Scott’s work and extension activities over the past two seasons, particularly in botrytis management, exemplify the successful collaboration between research and grower extension/education.
National Horticulture Manager at Nutrien Ag Solutions Peter Melville said Scott's role has significantly influenced the industry's progress.
“His efforts have facilitated the seamless transfer of knowledge and practical solutions to vineyard practitioners, ultimately benefiting the entire industry,” commented Peter.
