World’s largest fully measured fleece competition returns to Bendigo

Nutrien Ag Solutions, AWTA, ASBA and the broader wool industry are coming together at the Australian Sheep and Wool Show in Bendigo for the 22nd Australian Fleece Competition on the 14th – 16th July 2023.

Fleeces from all over Australia and all major wool types will be entered into the competition.  Entries are now being accepted, with the closing date for fleece entries 2nd June.

Candice Cordy, Nutrien Ag Solutions Wool Account Manager and Australian Fleece Competition Convenor, said the event showcases and sets a benchmark for the best fleeces in Australia.

“It is a brilliant event all round. It showcases the best wool in the country, provides growers with valuable feedback, engages the next generation of wool growers with specific awards and also provides exhibitors the opportunity to donate their fleeces to a selected national charity.

“This year the benefiting charity is Down syndrome Australia. Thanks to the generosity of exhibitors, over $200,000 has been donated to charity since the competition began.” Candice said.

There are over 50 awards on offer, with a total prize value of $18,000 including a $2200 travel voucher for the Grand Champion fleece.
