Record-breaking 49th Nutrien Livestock Ballarat premier weaner sale

The 49th Nutrien Livestock Ballarat premier weaner sale was the largest one to date, with sales topping over $12 million. Nutrien Ballarat livestock manager and auctioneer Xavier Shanahan said the "entire sale was enormous".

5,215 head of steers and heifers with several large annual drafts sold on Friday 25 February.

"Egerton Farm sold the top-priced pen of 21 Angus steers, 20 months at 625 kg, for $3,110," Xavier said.

The next top Angus steers weaners were 

  • Ballanee sold 15 steers, 437 kg, for $2660, 
  • Rowallan Lodge sold 20 steers, 430kg, for $2,630,
  • Ballark sold 30 steers, 400kg, for $2,550.
     

Ballark was also awarded the Bruce Balharrrie Memorial Best Presented Pen of Steer Weaners Award.

"Lilyvale Pastoral topped the heifer market with 15 Angus heifers, 17/18months Langi Kal Kal blood 424kg, at $2,740."

"The largest vendor at the sale was Mick and Col Mullane from Ballan, with 497 weaners offer."

"Terry Ginnane from Nutrien Leongatha kicked off the sale purchasing the first eight pens of Steer Weaners".

Nutrien Tamworth also purchased 700 head for the day. 

"The price increase on last year was around $400 - $500/ head, which is fantastic," Xavier concluded.
