Nicole Davies recognised as a finalist for National Wool Broker Award

On any given day, Nicole Davies might be found in a dusty shearing shed in central Victoria, boots on and fleeces in hand, talking with growers about sheep classing and ram selection. The next, she’s on the polished floors of Nutrien Ag Solutions’ Wool Store in Melbourne, inspecting and valuing wool clips for auction.

“No two days are ever the same,” Nicole says of her role as Wool Area Manager – Bendigo and Central Victoria at Nutrien Ag Solutions.

“That’s what I love about this industry – you’re constantly moving between the farm gate and the global market.”

It’s this passion that has caught the attention of industry leaders, with Nicole recently being named as a finalist in the National Council of Wool Selling Brokers of Australia’s prestigious Wool Broker Award. The recognition is a nod not only to her technical knowledge but also to her enthusiasm for promoting growers and their fibre.

Raised on a family station in outback New South Wales, Nicole says her roots in Merino production run deep.

“My family still proudly grows Merinos, and that background gave me an understanding of the hard work and dedication that goes into every bale.”

"It’s wonderful to see fleeces from all over Australia come together and showcase the best of our industry,” she says.

“I follow them from the farm right through to placing the ribbon on the winners – it’s a real privilege to be part of that journey.”

Nicole admits that being a woman in the industry once made her stand out, but she sees that changing.

“It’s pleasing to see more women coming into wool. You can’t be what you can’t see, so it’s important to show that women have a place in this industry, and I’m proud to be part of that change.”

“I want to keep promoting wool as the sustainable, marketable product it is,” Nicole says.

“The world is looking for natural fibres, and we have the best right here in Australia. Now it’s about making sure the story of wool is told.”
