Josh McDonald takes out the Victoria Young Auctioneers Competition

Josh McDonald has topped the 2021 ALPA Victoria Young Auctioneers Competition.

Representing Nutrien Ag Solutions Warrnambool, 22-year-old Josh McDonald claimed the state title ahead of eight other competitors at the Victorian Livestock Exchange, Pakenham, today, after the original date in 2021 was postponed due to Covid.

“Winning the Victorian competition is a really big achievement, especially competing against such a strong group of auctioneers," said Josh.

This isn’t the first time Josh has progressed through to the national stage, and said he is looking forward to bringing more confidence and experience to this year’s competition.

"It was such a good experience last time I competed on the national stage and I’m really looking forward to giving it my best this year in Sydney,” said Josh.

Josh sells each week at Warrnambool and Mortlake and has worked with Nutrien Ag Solutions for six years.

“Every day I am dealing with different people and working with livestock – it doesn’t get much better than that. In this job you are never doing the same thing on any day, so this has been a really good fit for me,” said Josh.

Nutrien Ag Solutions Managing Director Rob Clayton has congratulated all the finalists.

“The skill and professionalism that this competition continues to attract each year is of a very high standard, and it’s a great platform for the future leaders of the industry to develop and showcase their talent,” said Mr Clayton.

“Congratulations to all the finalists who competed today, it was such a great atmosphere to be part of and we were very excited to have five agents representing Nutrien Ag Solutions in the state final.”

“This is a really important milestone for Josh, and we are all very proud of his achievements in his career as one of the state’s top auctioneers.”

Josh McDonald will now advance to the national final held in Sydney at the Royal Easter Show.
