From Emerald to Calgary: Matt Pearce steps onto the international Stage

After claiming the title of 2025 ALPA National Young Auctioneers Champion, Matt Pearce is taking his talents from the saleyards of Emerald to the global arena, representing Australia at the International Livestock Auctioneer Championship at the Calgary Stampede this week.

Matt, a Branch Manager and Livestock Agent with GDL Rural, impressed judges and crowds at the Sydney Royal Easter Show earlier this year with his commanding presence. His win didn’t just earn him the national title; it opened the gates to one of the world’s biggest stages in livestock auctioneering.

“It still feels surreal,” Matt said ahead of the trip to Canada. “Winning ALPA was a massive moment for me, something I’d been working towards for a long time. To now be heading to Calgary to represent Australia is a huge honour.”

“It’s exciting to have the opportunity to sell in a different market, it will be a different style of selling and I look forward to the challenge,” Matt said.

The International Livestock Auctioneer Championship, held during the iconic Calgary Stampede, attracts the best auctioneers from around the world. Competitors are judged on clarity, rhythm, speed, and their ability to engage buyers. It’s a test of nerves, voice, and skill.

GDL Rural Managing Director, Peter Daniel said the team couldn’t be prouder.

“Matt’s win at ALPA was a testament to his talent, dedication and professionalism. He’s an outstanding auctioneer, but also a fantastic leader at our Emerald branch. He’s earned this opportunity and we’ll all be cheering him on.”

Matt follows in the footsteps of past ALPA champions who’ve gone on to represent Australia on the international circuit, with the competition continuing to elevate the next generation of auctioneering talent.

“The support I’ve had from the GDL and Nutrien Ag Solutions team, my mentors, and the entire industry has been unreal,” Matt added. “The agricultural community is pretty special, and I’m just stoked to be part of it.”

With his hat and gavel packed, Matt Pearce is ready to show the world what a young auctioneer from regional Queensland can do.
