‘Committed, Driven, Teamwork’: How an all-in mentality is driving success at Nutrien Ag Solutions Dalby
Home to the second largest selling centre in the country and accounting for 42 per cent of the national feedlot occupancy, a strong and reputable livestock service remains a priority for the award winning branch.
Branch Manager Murray Boshammer has also put a big focus in recent years on their agronomy team to service their dual cropping clients and meet the demand for feed grains in an intensive livestock production region.
We sat down with Murray to hear about what’s driving consistent success within his team at Dalby.
Can you tell me a bit about your area, what are your key agricultural commodities and client base?
Dalby is a mixed farming area. Our winter cropping varieties consist of wheat, barley, faba beans and chickpeas. In Summer, we see a lot of cotton, sorghum, corn and mungbean. There are mainly cattle produced in this area and a significant number of feedlots around. Dalby is home to the second biggest selling centre in Australia.
How would you describe the culture at your branch in three words?
Committed, Driven, Teamwork. We are one team and the success of our business relies on the commitment and contribution of all team members.
Are there any new initiatives, products, or services that you believe have contributed to your success?
We have really focused on building strong agronomy and livestock teams at our branch. Within our agronomy team we have six senior and two junior agronomists who have both joined the business through our graduate program. This ensures we have a strong presence with our clients, supplying service and product.
Our livestock team services our branch as well as western branches to cover such a large selling area. We have a senior agent who is consistently finding great results for clients outside the saleyards and a new agent to assist the weekly workload at yards and build on our client base.
We also offer fertiliser blending services which has really contributed to our business. Blending and bagging capabilities gives our clients and agronomists options to get their crop needs finely tuned. This service also supports our fellow branches out west to assist with their client's needs.
How does your branch build strong connections with your local community and customers?
We are a customer first business, focused on providing the best service possible for our clients. I also believe word of mouth is the best form of advertising in a regional community. That’s why it’s vital our clients have positive experiences with the business and our staff have a strong presence in the community.
What’s a ‘small focus’ that’s had a big impact on your branch operations and culture?
It’s really important we keep a positive outlook with all staff to promote teamwork and create a positive working environment. All our staff contribute to the success of our business and should know the value they bring to the team each day.
If you could give one piece of advice to another branch hoping to lift their performance, what would it be?
Engage all your team and encourage common goals for client service.
In 2023 you were recognised with the MD’s Safety Excellence Award, how has safety remained a priority for your branch?
We talk about safety a lot and it is always included in our day-to-day operations. If we continue to talk about it and prioritise it in our meetings it will continue to be front of mind for all staff members.
