CareFlight and Nutrien hit the road to deliver lifesaving training to the Far North

Every minute counts in a traumatic incident, and those minutes are even more precious when medical services are hundreds of kilometres away. That’s why Nutrien Ag Solutions Branch Manager Tom Mugford is so passionate about ensuring his clients, customers and community are equipped to deal with any situation they may face in the Far North

Since Nutrien teamed up with CareFlight, the Emergency Trauma Training has been delivered to over 150 rural and regional communities across Australia.

With SafeWork Australia finding the fatality rate on Australian farms almost eight times higher than across other industries, the training is vital to give Nutrien leaders like Tom the confidence to send his team out on the road knowing they’re prepared for any situation.

“As a Branch Manager, my job is to lead the team and my first priority is their safety and making sure that everybody comes home in the same condition, or better, than how they arrived at work,” he said.

“I do have a few sleepless nights because my team works so remote. They could be eight, ten hours away from home when they’re travelling to visit clients and inspect crops.

“But this training is just one of the things we do to make sure they are as equipped as they can be to deal with any emergency situation.

“We’ve already had incidents where a member of our team has come across accidents and they’ve had the confidence to respond and give that person the best chance.”

In 2023 and 2024, the training was delivered to over 105 rural and regional communities.
